catdoc software package provides Convert Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files to plain text, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install catdoc
catdoc is installed in your system.
Make ensure the catdoc package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep catdoc *
You will get with catdoc package name, version, architecture and description in a table
